The Ballad of Karma
A challenge set, accepted too,
The sky played host, to a flying few,
Ten angels high, full speed and sound,
These mighty two, their lore not crowned,
The battle opened, a head on merge,
Then turn and ride, the stalling verge,
The Daimler stretched, the Merlin roared
The rivals fought, the angels lowered,
Some shots were fired, good hits for sure,
The Merlin's man, first blood to score,
Yet Glory's fleeting style held true,
The end not writ, we watchers knew,
Karma's fall, the story told,
Offered little, to hope behold,
The Dog of Red, as judge called out,
This Reapers day is of account,
Still northbound swimming, and face of rose,
Karma, wet with thoughts of woe,
Of making not ole' Englands shore,
And the Cliffs of Dover, he'd see no more,
And t'was so, the ballad began,
Told to boy, by each boy, grown man,
Of the day he flew up near the Sun,
And swam the waters when he was done,
Heiden himself did suffer too,
Though for he, the air along, he flew,
His thoughts may well be rightly proud,
As he cleared the coast and crossed the cloud,
Some say, the story, it's end, not yet,
For Karma weak and shored up wet,
Determined clear and vex'd of mind,
To balance the score in the air next time,
Heiden claims his victory true,
Not Karma, me, nor she nor you,
Can take away the history made,
But call the challenge of this game played.
